“Walking is a man’s best medicine” said Hippocrates over 2,000 years ago – and a growing body of scientific evidence suggests he wasn’t wrong.
Well at Fruiteatox we believe in a balanced lifestyle – diet and exercise. Walking is simple, free and one of the easiest ways to get more active, lose weight and become healthier.
It’s Walk to Work Day on Friday 5th April and a recent report by Public Health England found that a daily brisk 10 minute walk could provide increased physical fitness, greater ease of performance of everyday physical activities, improved mood, improved quality of life, increased body leanness and healthier weight and a 15% reduction in risk of early death.
Too far/too difficult for you to walk to work?
Some good news. Even walking around the office can help people avoid weight gain.
An American study published in 2016 found that participants who took a 15-minute walk burned three times as many calories as those who sat all the time or stood still. If you took just four 15-minute walks a day, you’d burn 130 more calories than if you simply sat or stood at your desk.
And taking regular strolls throughout the day is believed to be healthier than half an hour of intense exercise because it discourages prolonged sedentary behaviour, a huge contributor to cardiovascular diseases and mortality. Plus breaks boost your mood and make you more productive.
So you don’t have to go on mammoth treks to benefit from walking. And you don’t have to travel to the countryside to find a rewarding walk.
If you live in a city, Walkit has an interactive walk planner to help you find the best walking route. Each suggested route includes your journey time, calorie burn, step count and carbon saving and Hikideas uses a tool that can be used for planning both urban and non-urban walks.
And finally, before setting off in the morning – maybe for your walk – what could be better than a cup of delicious Fruiteatox Lemon Daytox for an energising start to the day?
