Getting your summer body back might not be one of your priorities for the moment but let us assure you, now is the time to start thinking about how you’re going to get beach ready. Use these weeks in the run up to summer to make a difference to your body by adopting small habits that will make big changes over time. Here’s how to start your summer bikini body plan now.
Where’s your weak spot?
Take a step back and look at your diet habits. Do you tend to finish lunch off with a chocolate bar? Do you serve yourself portions that are too big, or maybe you snack all day long? These are the habits that we can cut out, and interestingly, studies show it takes 66 days (that’s around nine and a half weeks) to change a habit, so that gives you plenty of time to get into the swing of things.
Nutrition is key
So aside from the things we’re cutting out, we need to pay attention to the things we are eating! Eat ‘complete’ meals with a bit of everything: vegetables, good fat, carbs and protein so the temptation to snack between meals is less so, and eat at regular intervals. If you do need to snack, something like a small bowl of plain yoghurt with a banana or a handful of celery sticks with hummus should keep your belly happy.
Get active first thing
Fasted cardio is proven to be effective at burning fat so that’s the first thing you should be doing as soon as you’ve woken up. Aim for 20 to 30 minutes of light to moderate cardio three times a week to get your heart pumping and really target your fat reserves. That could be anything from a morning swimming session to walking at a fast pace to work – small but easy additions to make to your day.
Remember to keep positive throughout because healthy eating and weight loss is a lifestyle change that takes time to show its results.
