Beginners: 3 hacks to kickstart your workout routine

1. Work smarter, not longer

Start your day with a short and sweet workout. That doesn’t mean it won’t be intense but something’s got to give if it leads to spending less hours in the gym, right? Go for a high intensity interval training (HIIT) class as the nature of the repeated bouts of high intensity workout periods followed by varied rest phases keeps your heart rate up and helps to speed up your metabolic rate so you can burn calories quicker.

2. Get social and fit at the same time

Surround yourself with other friends who are getting fit so that when you get together, it won’t feel like a workout. Run together, try a new gym class together, lift weights together…it should all be fun; not a chore. What’s more, you’re less likely to bail on your buddy if you’ve got a fixed workout date in the diary.

3. Limit your sitting time

Lots of us are sedentary during the day: in the office, watching TV, eating meals, and so on.
