Summer seems like a distant memory now that the colder days are settling in but we think it’s one of the best times to reset our bodies and our routines. For a healthy body and lifestyle, it’s so important to think about what we’re putting into them if we want to get the best out of them. This is why autumn makes one of the most perfect times to kick off your 14-day teatox – and here are five more reasons to start now.
1. Perky pick-me-up
For teas that contain small amounts of caffeine thanks to ingredients such as oolong and yerba maté, there’s a small boost to be had which is great if you’re drinking the tea first thing. It’s also an added bonus for when you wake up and it’s still dark outside so your body feels like it shouldn’t be getting up for another few hours! The natural boosts we get from our morning tea are essential for mental performance and raising energy levels for the day ahead.
2. Daily digest
Teas blended using ingredients that support the digestive system in some way help the drinker to feel better from within. With the colder weather, we tend to crave and cook heartier comfort foods which can feel heavy in the stomach so sipping on a tea containing ingredients such as peppermint leaves, fenugreek seeds, liquorice root, burdock root, hawthorn leaves and valerian root will help to soothe.
3. Drinking for skin
Certain ingredients can definitely help you up your beauty game, and gaining a clear complexion can be achieved by ingesting foods that promote healthier skin. If you can get a good dosage of vitamin C from a tea made with citrus or berry-derived ingredients, your skin will thank you for the collagen boost. Switching between cold weather and heated indoor environments can dehydrate skin so we need to make sure we look after it even more in the colder months.
4. Hydrate me
By drinking tea, you’re naturally upping your intake of H2O which helps you to avoid soft drinks that are high in sugar, and therefore calories. We should all aim to drink six to eight glasses of fluid a day to help our bodies flush out toxins and function properly, and tea counts towards that. What’s more, water helps to keep skin hydrated so maintaining healthy skin is less of a chore.
5. Relax and recharge
Look out for pre-bedtime teas that contain natural sedatives and calming properties including chamomile, lavender and lemon balm. These are the ones most likely to help you drift off into a natural sleep, and feel better in the morning for it. A good night’s sleep is important for helping the body recharge, and if we’re not getting this regularly, we can feel run down and become more susceptible to the illnesses that get around in the colder months.
Detox teas set you in a great mindset and help you stay in good health but they should always be enjoyed as part of a healthy lifestyle. If you’re looking for the perfect detox tea, look for one that is packed with health-boosting ingredients, but also one tastes great.
